Azercosmos joined the United Nations (UN) Global Compact initiative

Azercosmos joined the UN Global Compact initiative in Azerbaijan.

By joining the Global Compact, Azercosmos will have the opportunity to plan, implement sustainability in the field of space activities, strengthen its internal capabilities and promote its expertise to the wider business community and other stakeholders internationally. Also, exchange of experience between Azercosmos and the UN Global Compact, and discussions on Azercosmos' report on the assessment of the effects of global climate changes on the Republic of Azerbaijan are planned.

As a participant of the UN Global Compact, Azercosmos will adapt its activities to the country's sustainable development priorities, "green" development directions, policies and obligations, including the "Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development" covering the years 2021-2025. Azercosmos will benefit from the experience of the UN Global Compact on 17 goals related to sustainable development.

The role of space technologies is of particular importance in the UN document "Transforming our world: Agenda for sustainable development until 2030" consisting of 17 goals. Today, the use of space technologies in economic, social and environmental fields, which are united with each other, is very relevant. From this point of view, we see the direct and indirect benefits of space technologies in these areas. For example, if a satellite image helps a farmer increase his productivity, this is a direct contribution, a direct result; if it affects a more global goal such as poverty reduction, it is considered an indirect effect aimed at improving agricultural efficiency. In short, the possibilities of space are used to solve the big problems and global challenges faced by the world.
