Azercosmos has completed monitoring of the forests in Papua New Guinea

Azercosmos, in collaboration with The Commonwealth of Nations, has carried out a forest monitoring program in Papua New Guinea. This project was implemented to ensure the conservation of forest resources and the sustainable development of ecosystems.

Key Findings of the Monitoring:

• The study determined that approximately 79% of the country’s territory is covered by forests.
• Forest areas with tree canopies reaching 25 meters or more account for 65% of the total forested area in the country.
• A significant portion (90.9%) of the forests have dense vegetation, and their biomass condition is considered favorable.

The results of the project highlight the importance of systematic and technological approaches to ecosystem conservation. One of the latest solutions introduced within the program is the development of an AI-based platform. This platform will conduct forest monitoring using satellite imagery, enabling the timely identification of risks. The platform is expected to be launched in the coming months.

It is worth noting that this week marks Commonwealth Day, emphasizing the importance of building a fairer and more developed society through cooperation among different nations and communities.
