Azercosmos proudly hosted the 4th Meeting among the Space Agencies and Relevant Authorities of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Baku, bringing together representatives and experts from across the Turkic world to strengthen cooperation in space science, education, policy, and climate resilience.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Dunay Badirkhanov, Acting Chair of Azercosmos, reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to fostering strategic collaboration among OTS member states, emphasizing:
“In today’s interconnected world, unity among Turkic nations is not just symbolic — it is a strategic necessity. Together, we are building a resilient space ecosystem grounded in shared values, innovation, and mutual benefit.”
Key topics discussed during the meeting included:
Delegates reviewed the advancement of the joint CubeSat initiative — a collaborative satellite program designed to promote knowledge-sharing and address environmental challenges through the monitoring of CO₂ and methane emissions.
Azercosmos proposed harmonizing legal frameworks among OTS states to streamline cooperation and ensure responsible practices in future space activities.
Participants discussed the launch of the Virtual Space Academy — a digital education platform supported by 21 universities from across the Turkic region and partner countries. Additionally, Azercosmos presented its GIS training programs, developed in collaboration with the Commonwealth, aimed at strengthening climate resilience through space-based technologies.
Plans were announced for the 2025 Turkic Space Camp in Türkiye, designed to foster youth engagement and talent mobility through immersive, hands-on learning experiences.
Representatives explored the establishment of a recurring “Turkic World Space Conference”, hosted in rotation by OTS member and observer states to institutionalize space dialogue and cooperation in the region.
These initiatives are grounded in Azerbaijan’s National Space Strategy and the recently enacted Law on Space Activities, which reflect global best practices, emphasize sustainability, and formalize the nation’s long-term commitment to international space collaboration.
