The preparations for attracting students, young scientists, and researchers to be part of the National Scientific Team that will represent Azerbaijan at the 76th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), which will be held in Sydney, Australia, have been successfully completed. The project is being organized jointly by the Azercosmos’ SPACE Academy, the State Agency for Science and Higher Education, "SABAH Groups" project, and the National Aviation Academy of Azerbaijan.
The National Scientific Team project, as one of the main initiatives of the Space Academy, has implemented a large-scale scientific support program for 4500 students, 1000 young scientists, and 100 researchers. Within the framework of the project, a series of information sessions were organized at 14 universities in Azerbaijan, where detailed training on writing and presenting scientific articles was provided to the participants.
As part of the Mentorship Program, which was implemented for the first time this year, participants were provided with detailed information about the project and its objectives, the preparation and evaluation process of scientific abstracts, the selection of topics for scientific articles, and the registration procedures. This program aims to develop the scientific writing skills of students and young scientists and ensure their more active participation in the International Astronautical Congress’s "Student and Young Professionals Program" (SYP).
The International Astronautical Congress is an important platform where the latest innovations in the field of space are showcased, with over 200 scientific-technical and interactive plenary sessions, bringing together scientists and experts from different countries of the world. Since Azerbaijan has hosted the event twice in its history, it was decided to promote the active and continuous participation of students and young scientists with scientific articles in the “Student and Young Professionals Program” (SYP) of the Congress. The Consortium, established jointly by the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the State Agency for Science and Higher Education, the "SABAH Groups" program, and Azercosmos, has established the Azerbaijan National Scientific Team.
The National Scientific Team represented Azerbaijan at the 2023 Baku congress with 214 scientific articles, and for the 2024 congress, it has encouraged the participation of Azerbaijani students and young scientists with 345 scientific articles. Thus, the National Scientific Team, consisting of 82 students and young scientists at the Baku congress and 52 students and young scientists at the Milan congress, has shown high scientific results.
The National Scientific Team is currently preparing a new team of students and young scientists for the 76th International Astronautical Congress, which will be held from September 29 to October 3 this year. One of the goals of the National Scientific Team project is to ensure the active participation of Azerbaijani students and young scientists in the 77th International Astronautical Congress, which will be held in Antalya, Turkey, in 2026.
The high-level representation of the Azerbaijani scientific community at the 76th International Astronautical Congress will contribute significantly to strengthening the country's position in the international arena, particularly in the aspects of space research, innovation, digitalization, space diplomacy, and defense industry potential, from the perspective of investing in human capital.
