Hackathon Theme

The National Space Hackathon is the first event of its kind in Azerbaijan, bringing together innovators, developers, engineers, and entrepreneurs to create groundbreaking downstream space technology solutions. Over 48 hours, participants will work in teams to turn satellite data and cutting edge technologies into real-world applications that can benefit industries such as agriculture, environmental monitoring, smart cities, and disaster response. With expert mentorship, networking opportunities, and the chance to win incubation support and funding, the hackathon aims to inspire the next generation of space innovators and strengthen Azerbaijan’s position in the global spacetech ecosystem.

Focus Challenges

Agriculture & Environmental Monitoring applications

  • Crop health monitoring
  • Crop yield

Natural disaster response applications

  • Fire-scar detection
  • Flood mapping with radar

Automated Reporting and Insights

  • Recommendation to farmers based on the field condition
  • Automated reporting of forest fires

Urban Planning & Smart Cities

  • Identifying Prime Locations for Solar
  • Panels and Wind Turbines

Advanced Geospatial Data Enhancement & Fusion

  • Cloud removal
  • Super-resolution of satellite imagery

Evaluation Criteria Section

Innovation

Assess how novel and creative each solution is in addressing downstream space challenges. Judges will look for unique, ground breaking approaches and out-of-the-box thinking that distinguish the entry from conventional ideas.

Usability, User Experience & Engagement

Evaluate the intuitiveness and engagement level of the solution. High scores go to entries with seamless interfaces, user-friendly navigation, and interactive design that prioritize end-user interaction and satisfaction.

Presentation Quality

Teams will be evaluated on collaboration, coherence, and how compellingly they present their solution. A polished, passionate, and well-rehearsed presentation—demonstrating domain knowledge and delivery confidence—will stand out.

Technical Feasibility / Performance

Consideration will be given to the realism of implementation—can the solution realistically integrate Earth Observation data with local infrastructure? Proposals must demonstrate clear understanding of technical constraints, resource needs, and deployment potential.

Market Potential / Scalability

Judges will assess the market viability of the solution. Strong candidates clearly articulate their value proposition, scalability, target market, and potential to drive economic or societal impact within Azerbaijan’s downstream space ecosystem.

FAQ

Anyone passionate about innovation and space technologies can join — developers, designers, engineers, researchers, entrepreneurs, students, and space enthusiasts. You can participate individually or as part of a team.

Yes. You can register individually, and we will help you connect with other participants during the team formation stage at the beginning of the hackathon.

Yes! Participation is completely free. All you need is your 48 hours, skills, creativity.

The top three teams will win monetary prizes (I place – 3,000 AZN, II place – 2,000 AZN, III place – 1,500 AZN) and gain direct entry into the SABAH.HUB incubation program to further develop their solutions.

Participants will have access to real satellite and EO datasets, mentor support, technical guidance, and networking opportunities with industry professionals.

Absolutely! The hackathon welcomes people from all backgrounds. Whether you’re a coder, designer, business strategist, or just curious about space tech, you can contribute in valuable ways.

The hackathon will be conducted primarily in English to accommodate international mentors and participants, but Azerbaijani language support will be available.

No. Teams must remain for the entire 48-hour duration of the hackathon. Leaving before the end will result in disqualification from prize consideration.
