Space Strategy 2030
Space Strategy 2030 aims to implement a sustainable space program that supports the socio-economic development of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This strategy defines the development prospects for the space sector until 2030 and the goals and priority directions of the space program.
While preparing the strategy, global trends observed in the world space industry and their impact on the development of the space sector in Azerbaijan were assessed.
We have a strong foundation for a successful space strategy
Azerspace-1 and Azerspace-2 telecommunication satellites were successfully launched into orbit, commercial satellite activity was organized, and the core of the national space industry was established.
As a result of the successful business activity of Azerspace-1 and Azerspace-2 satellites, the geographical coverage of services covers more than 40 countries.
Azersky high-resolution Earth observation satellite was launched into orbit, supporting the socio-economic development of the country and protecting the national interests.
Broadcasting of the television and radio channels of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the country and in various regions of the world was ensured via the national satellites, contributing to the country’s information security.
As an active member of the "Space Club", opportunities for international cooperation in the space field have been expanded, and the 74th International Astronautical Congress was held in Baku in 2023.
Local specialists in the space sphere were trained, comprehensive measures were taken to attract young people from various spheres to the field of space, as well as to facilitate awareness and interest of the general public towards the space.

National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development “Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development” were supplemented by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated February 2, 2021. Five National Priorities have been established for the decade, which will lead to socio-economic development, ensuring the successful development of the triad of business, business and state for the long-term sustainable and rapid development of our country, the development of private projects on a creative and innovative basis, the modernization of human capital and the growth of the digital economy.
Two telecommunications, one EO satellite, as well as further satellite projects can contribute to the country's economy. Stability and growth in the space economy can be ensured by exporting high tech services and increasing employment In the space sector.
There is a wide range of opportunities to provide communications through satellite communications, consequently bridge the urban-rural digital divide. Digitization can be further developed by offering uninterrupted, fast and reliable satellite communications to populations that do not have access to alternative communication solutions, especially in remote areas.
By establishing close cooperation with educational institutions, it is possible to contribute to the formation of competitive human capital in the field of space, to implement educational programs aimed at the development of space-oriented technologies and the STEM, and to support the formation of space-oriented business ideas in Business Incubation Centers as well as acceleration programs.
The possibilities of contributing to the infrastructure projects planned and implemented in the direction of socio-economic development of the liberated territories with communication and satellite images are wide. A wide range of proposals can be presented based on the analysis of satellite images on the development of agriculture, raising the potential of tourism, protecting the ecological environment and benefiting from water resources.
In order to reduce the consequences of climate change, there are opportunities for continuous monitoring of areas with a high-risk of drought and desertification as well as the preparation of reports. For efficient use of water resources in the country, they can be more accurately assessed, then accountability ensured. Moreover, monitoring and comparative analysis of multi-year plantings on efficient use of arable land is possible.
To ensure the implementation and the sustainability of innovative space projects in the Republic of Azerbaijan, necessary measures related to procurement, component production, scientific research, personnel training will be taken, and a national space ecosystem facilitating the interconnected implementation and development of the abovementioned will be formed.
The development of the space sector in the country will be facilitated, the application of the created opportunities by the state bodies, private companies, research institutions, and other stakeholders will be expanded, and contribution will be given to the employment level.
At the country level, as well as in the international arena, effective working mechanisms will be formed to protect the country’s national interests and support its national security.
