On December 6-7, 2025, the first "National Space Hackathon" was held in Azerbaijan. The event was organized by Azercosmos, in partnership with the Innovation and Digital Development Agency, Sabah.Hub, and Israel's IAI company, and took place at the Azerbaijan Innovation Center.
The main goal of the hackathon was to bring together young Azerbaijanis aged 18-35 in the fields of space and innovation, to create an environment for the development of innovative approaches, raise awareness about space entrepreneurship and innovation, and increase the youth’s engagement in these fields.
During the event, participants were presented with technical challenges, and a session on "Space Economy" was held. In the selection stage of the hackathon, 15 teams were chosen from 150 applications. Within 24 hours, the teams presented solutions for applying space technologies in areas such as increasing agricultural productivity, optimizing urban planning processes, environmental protection, and disaster management, using data from Earth observation satellites and modern technologies. The innovative solutions and approaches presented by the teams clearly demonstrated the wide potential applications of space technologies.
At the end of the event, the top 3 winning teams, selected by the jury, were awarded incubation support and relevant cash prizes: (1st place – 3000 AZN, 2nd place – 2000 AZN, 3rd place – 1500 AZN).
Winning Teams and Their Projects:
1st Place – "Millenium" Team
Millenium is a web and mobile real estate analytics platform that uses satellite data, artificial intelligence, and interactive heat maps to quickly identify the best locations based on users' lifestyle and spatial preferences.
2nd Place – "SITE" Team
This project is a satellite-based analytical tool for soil assessment, which determines the suitability of a specific area for agriculture with high accuracy, based on remote sensing and the FAO Soil Assessment Framework.
3rd Place – "Astryx" Team
This project is a smart marine habitat monitoring and forecasting system that predicts the locations of fish using satellite data, environmental indicators, and machine learning models, while also continuously monitoring aquaculture infrastructure.
Additionally, the 4th place winner, the "Aadvark" Team, earned the opportunity to join the incubation program supported by Sabah.Hub, the partner of the hackathon.
Moreover, the teams that made it into the top ten will have the opportunity to join an acceleration program next year, in partnership with the Innovation and Digital Development Agency and IAI from Israel.
It is worth noting that a total of 75 participants from 10 different universities took part in the hackathon.
Azercosmos supports the development of innovative solutions in space and technology fields in Azerbaijan through its initiatives and aims to increase young people's interest in these sectors.
