On July 28, the official closing ceremony of the “Women in Space” mentorship program, which was held for the second time in Azerbaijan and lasted three months, took place.
During the closing ceremony, the important role of women in the development of the space sector was emphasized. Additionally, the significance of initiatives like this in promoting gender equality in our society and increasing young women’s interest in science and technology was highlighted.
Within the event, a presentation summarizing the program’s results was showcased. At the end, certificates were awarded to the participants and gifts were given to them.
The main goal of the “Women in Space” mentorship program is to uncover the potential of women in the space sector in Azerbaijan, provide them with individual mentorship support in their education and career paths, and support their participation in global cooperation in this field. The program is designed for women aged 18-35 who are interested in space and related fields and brings participants together with professionals working in various directions of the space industry.
This year, a total of 138 applications were received from 15 different cities, including from abroad. Ten participants who fully met the selection criteria earned the right to participate in the program. Between April and June, they attended direct meetings with five experienced mentors. They also participated in more than 20 seminars and webinars covering topics such as “International Grants in the Space Sector,” “Space Innovations,” “Analog Missions,” “Satellite Communications,” “Telecommunications and Earth Observation.” Additionally, they had the opportunity to visit Azercosmos’ Main Ground Satellite Control Center (MGSCC) and get acquainted with satellite operations on site.
