Azerbaijan has become a venue for space events. From October 2-6, 2023, the International Astronautical Congress was held in Baku, 50 years after the last one.
On June 30, 2023, the Law on Space Activities of the Republic of Azerbaijan was adopted. Only 43 countries worldwide have such a national space law. In 2023, Azerbaijan obtained control over the geostationary orbital position at 46° East longitude. Only 48 countries worldwide have an official orbital position like this. In 2023, Azercosmos launched the SPACE Academy, which combines local and international expertise to train space specialists for future generations. The SPACE Academy plays an irreplaceable role as a space hub for the region and Central Asia. Its main focus is to enhance the education and experience of youth in space-related fields.

15 years ago, there was no concept of forming a space ecosystem, managing satellites, and professional staff in this field in Azerbaijan. Although a professional environment has been formed in our country for many years in the fields of economy, oil and gas, and medicine, the space industry seemed like a new direction. With the establishment of Azercosmos, this gap was eliminated, and completely new professions in the space field began to form.
